HEIA national Council meeting June 2020

A HEIA national Council meeting was held via Zoom on 13 June 2020. It was a wonderful way to meet face to face in spite of these challenging times!

The Council continues to work on ways to enrich teaching and learning opportunities for members.

The new HEIA website is now live and it’s beautiful! This platform provides access to more resources and member-only benefits. Among these benefits are the online communities of practice, which are being rolled out on a national level to complement those offered at state level. The HEIA Facebook page lists all of the upcoming online events, including what is sure to be a fascinating and insightful webinar Home Economics as an Academic Discipline.

We encourage all of you to join or host a community of practice (CoP) for your local area to share ideas and collaborate with your peers. If you have any ideas about topics you would like covered as part of the national CoP or webinar series, please email heia@heia.com.au. In the current climate, hosting or taking part in a webinar or community of practice is a wonderful way for all of us to continue our professional learning under the restrictions placed as a result of COVID-19, and indeed has the added benefit of making it easier for our reginal and remote colleagues to participate.

You would be aware by now that the 2020 National conference Igniting Critical Agendas has been postponed until next year. The conference committee is working to ensure the keynote and concurrent speakers are ready to inspire delegates when the conference is hosted in Brisbane on 27–29 September 2021.

The McCormick/HEIA Flavour Forecast Recipe Challenge 2020 is live, but with a difference. This year students will be able to select one of the two identified flavour trends and work with their parents at home to design one recipe from one trend. Students who participate will get to delve deep into one of the two flavour trends: Refresh, Replenish, Rehydrate OR Sauced & Spiced. For more information, visit our website here.

There are also some great clips on the McCormick Flavour Forecast Recipe on HEIA’s new YouTube channel. Subscribe to ‘Home Economics Institute of Australia Inc.’ channel for curriculum and professional videos. New content is added regularly.
